In 1900, Henri Barrabé developed his business as a cooper in his studio workshop in Tinchebray into a factory making casks for calvados and cider. The next 30 years, he developed his range to include a variety of small barrels and casks, originally for containing (calvados and cider), but which he turned into high quality decorative items for the home.
In 1937, he won a bronze medal at on international exhibition of Arts and Technology in Paris.
In 1953, Marcel et Gérard Barrabé, grandsons of Henri, took over the entreprise and redirect the art of making caskes with a new direction, by creating oriental designs and producing objects for souvenirs.
In 1963, Marcel and Bernadette Barrabé buy the Pont Notre Dame, a former mill near the tan center transformed into factory hardware in 1920. They install the workshop production of decorative bushel.
In 1970, the company became an industrial-oriented marketing of small household furniture. In the 80s, it goes to manufacture product "space savings, mezzanine, high bed, small furniture complement ...
Today, the historical mill has been transformed by Marc-Henri BARRABE into an atelier and shop, « Le Grenier de Marco », for furniture and decorative pieces.
As you enter the shop you find yourself in a world of contrast, containing a mixture of style, old and new arranged with taste and floor. Marc-Henri BARRABE is welcoming and friendly and takes fride in the quality of woods from which the furniture is produced. You will find pieces crafted from traditionally waxed pine which can be mixed to recreate the spirit at a "country home".

Lovers of natural wood will find plenty at choice at original pieces at differing colours, patinas, patterns... Furniture can be decorated by you at home.
There is a wide selection of kitchen, ceramics, enduring, tableware, original lamps, ornements, painting and prints both modern or "old french", old and modern books, door furniture and trinkets.
Marc-Henri BARRABE has also sourced goods from several othe cultures, Portugal and Eastern Europe, as if that were not enough he has some remarkable second hand art books in french or english.
The sotck evolves and changes the year so there is always something new and seasonal.
